Classes

Regular, weekly classes are held throughout the year at three locations in London, Neal’s Yard Meeting Rooms, Covent Garden, The City Lit, Covent Garden, Sutton College and La Caseta Flamenca, Streatham.

 

Private classes are also available for individuals and small groups. These can be in a hired studio or in the company's purpose-built studio in South London.

 

 

Summer 2019

 

Neal’s Yard Meeting Rooms, Covent Garden

General Level Flamenco Dance
Thursdays 6.00pm to 7.45pm.
Weekly summer classes concluding with a party, FIESTA FLAMENCA de VERANO on Thursday 22 August 6.00pm to 9.00pm to which friends and family are very welcome to come. £5 entry to cover fees for professional musicians and singers who will accompany the student and the professional dancers. Beginners are welcome to these friendly and dynamic ‘open’ classes (suitable for men and women, young and old) as well as Elementary level students with up to three years' Flamenco Dance experience who will be challenged in speed, style, technique and solo performance. ‘flamenco puro’ Bulerías de Jerez

Summer School 2019:

Flamenco: Style and Grace – Open / General level
Wednesday 17th , Thursday 18th and Friday 19th July 2019, 10.15am to 12.15pm. £79. Course Code DS056.

This course, separate but complementary to the Power and Performance Summer Flamenco dance course, will focus on the graceful execution of flamenco posture and arm & wrist movements combined with foot placement leading to a short choreography. Featuring live guitar accompaniment, this fun and intensive course is suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced student. Men and women of all ages and levels of dance experience are welcome.

Flamenco: Power and Grace – Open / General level

Wednesday 24th , Thursday 25th and Friday 26th July 2019, 10.15am to 12.15pm. £79. Course Code DS140.

.Suitable for men and women of all ages, from beginners to improvers.

This course, separate but complementary to the Power and Performance Summer Flamenco dance course, will focus on flamenco posture combined with dance steps and moves that accompany ‘Colombianas’ music and song, With emphasis on style, performance presence and panache, the course will culminate in a short dance sequence with live guitar accompaniment. This fun and intensive course is suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced student. Men and women of all ages and levels of dance experience are welcome.

Autumn Term: 19 September to 5 December 2019.
 

These fun, friendly, rigorous and dynamic classes include regular live guitar accompaniment and a wide variety of recorded flamenco music & song. Students have the opportunity to video section of the class so as to facilitate home practise.

 

Flamenco: beginners
10.00am to 11.30am. £179 (concessions available, see college website). Course Code DDB050.

 

In this fun and dynamic course you will learn fundamental flamenco dance moves, steps and rhythms in an energising and supportive atmosphere, progressing from 'Absolute Beginners' in Term 1 through 'Beginners' in Term 2 to 'Fast Beginners' in Term 3. Experience the rich complexity of this Andalucian Gypsy art form and develop presence, fitness and co-ordination. Two short dance sequences will be taught ‘por Sevillanas’ and ‘por Farruca’.
 

Flamenco: improvers

11.45am to 1.15pm. £179 (concessions available, see college website). Course Code DDM050.


A friendly, intensive course, suitable for Improvers and Elementary level students, that covers development of technique (footwork combinations, turns, arm & wrist co-ordination etc.) and a short dance sequence. There will be performance opportunities throughout the year, and you will need to have danced flamenco for at least a year and have completed our beginner's classes or equivalent. Two short dance sequences will be taught ‘por Fandangos’ and ‘por Bulerias’.

 

Flamenco: intermediate

1.30m to 2.45pm. £149 (concessions available, see college website). Course Code DDM053.

This upbeat intensive course is suitable for students who’ve completed at least 2 years of regular flamenco dance classes The course focuses on the confident and stylish execution of flamenco technique and dance routines at Intermediate level. A dance sequences ‘por Soleá’ will be taught.

 

Flamenco dance: Taster
Saturday 12 October 2019, 10am to 12noon. Course Code DDF010D, see college website for prices.

This one-off friendly and dynamic introduction to the joys and challenges of Flamenco dance is suitable for Absolute Beginners as well as students with up to a year’s experience. A cheerful up-beat Rumbas Flamencas short dance sequence will be taught incorporating posture, style and co-ordination with typical Flamenco dance steps.

Flamenco dance: Beginners

Saturdays 2 November to 14 December 2019 ( = 7 sessions ), 2.00pm to 3.30pm. Course Code DDB053, see college website for prices.

This short intensive course is suitable for Absolute Beginners as well as the more experienced student. Men and women of all ages and levels of dance experience are welcome. The course will cover the fundamental flamenco dance posture, co-ordination, steps and rhythms, and will lead to a short dance sequence to the soulful accompaniment of Tientos. Students will be welcome to perform what they have learnt at the end-of-tem Xmas Party, the Fiesta Flamenca de Navidad on Thursday 12 December 2019

Flamenco Dancing – All Abilities
 

Autumn Term 2019:

In these two separate but complementary courses you will learn and consolidate authentic flamenco dance style, steps and moves. These dynamic, thorough and fun-filled courses, taught in English and in Spanish, are open to men, women, young and old – Absolute Beginners are welcome, as well as those with several years' experience of dancing flamenco. Each session will include warm-up, a variety of footwork, turns and co-ordination exercises, a recap of Sevillanas for the more experienced students, and a short choreography. There will be many performance opportunities throughout the year including Streatham Festival (19 October, TBC), Dance Around The World (26-27 October) and Fiesta Flamenca de Navidad (12 December).

Flamenco: Elementary level


Mondays 1 July to 19 August 2019 ( 8 sessions ).

6.15pm to 7.45pm. £12 drop in / £40 for 4 sessions paid in advance.
8.00pm to 9.30pm, £12 drop in / £40 for 4 sessions paid in advance.


These classes will consolidate technique, rhythm and co-ordination, and will include revision and development of dances such as Sevillanas and pata’itas por Bulerias de Jerez y de Cadiz. A maximum of 5 participants per session means that each student will receive plenty of individual coaching & feedback.

1:1 private class: £45 per hour / £55 per 90mins + studio fee. N.B. free studio available in Streatham Vale, south London with sprung floor and mirrors.
