Classes

Regular, weekly classes are held throughout the year at four locations in London, St. Margaret’s Church, Streatham Hill, La Caseta Flamenca, Streatham,  City Lit, Covent Garden and Flow Dance, Oval.

 

Private classes are also available for individuals and small groups. These can be in a hired studio or in the company's purpose-built studio, Streatham, South London.

Flamenco Open Level

 

Saturdays throughout summer and autumn, EXCEPT NO classes 31 August, 7 September and 14 September.

3.30pm – 4.30pm. £8 drop-in / £5 per class when paid monthly in advance.

Absolute beginners welcome as well as the more experienced students wishing to consolidate the basics and learn new routines and performance dances.


Whatever your previous dance experience, you will develop posture, presence, body-confidence, coordination and style, while learning all the fundamental moves and grooves of Spanish ‘gitano’ dance.

La Caseta Flamenca

 

Flamenco Dance in Studio and Online

 

MONDAYS Open Level throughout summer and autumn EXCEPT NO classes 26 August, 2 September and 9 September.

18:30 – 19:00 Castanets.

£6 per class.


19:00 – 19:30 Recap (for previous students).
FREE.


19:30 – 21:00 Open Level Class.

£15 per class.

 

Please note: all the classes listed above are the same price in studio as on Zoom, payable in cash or online.

 

These dual-delivery classes are ideal for absolute beginners, as well as for experienced students wishing to consolidate & extend their training in fundamental Flamenco dance technique (posture, footwork coordination & speed, arm & wrist moves, markings, turns etc.) AND embark on NEW choreography and fresh performance opportunities.


Whether in the studio or at home online, each student will be given personalised feedback and guidance in every session, with access to notes, music and tuition videos for (optional) home practise.

Flamenco: Style and Grace

 

Wednesday 10, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July.

10.30am to 12.30pm. Full fee £89, Senior fee £89, Concessions £62, Course Code DS056.

 

This short course is open to all levels of experience, and is separate but complementary to the other summer Flamenco dance course: come practice steps and moves that emphasise flamenco style and grace. The course will culminate in a short dance sequence developed over the three days, with live guitar accompaniment, and there is an opportunity for all students to perform this 'work in progress' in an end-of-year Flamenco Dance showing in the John Lyon's Theatre, City Lit on Friday 19 July, 7.00pm.

Flamenco: Power and Performance

 

Sunday 21 and Sunday 28 July.

10.30am to 13.30pm. Full fee £89, Senior fee £89, Concessions £62, Course Code DS140.

 

This short course, separate but complementary to the other summer Flamenco dance course, is suitable for men and women of all ages, from beginners to improvers, and will focus on archetypal Flamenco dance steps and moves with emphasis on performance presence and panache. The course will culminate in a short dance sequence with live guitar accompaniment, and with an opportunity for all students to perform this 'work in progress' in an end-of-year Flamenco Dance showing in the John Lyon's Theatre, City Lit on Friday 19 July, 7.00pm.

Each of the regular classes below lasts 90mins. Thursday classes include regular live guitar accompaniment.
Students will have access to video recordings of sections of the class for home practise, and can share and access reference material on Google Classroom.

Flamenco: Beginners

 

Thursday 6 September to 5 December 2024 = 11 sessions over 11 weeks (NO Half Term break).

In this lively and friendly class, you will learn fundamental Flamenco dance moves, technique, steps and rhythms. A series of exercises will lead to a short dance sequence, you will develop style, presence and co-ordination – and you will have the option to perform the dance in an informal end-of-term showing.

Flamenco: Improvers and Intermediate

 

Thursday 6 September to 5 December 2024 = 11 sessions over 11 weeks (NO Half Term break).

This fun, dynamic and intensive course will enable you to develop and perfect your Flamenco dance technique, rhythm, style and variety of steps and combinations, leading to enhanced confidence, stamina and performance skills.

You will be embodying a variety of Flamenco ‘palos’ (Flamenco ‘forms’), so as to dance with ‘Flamencura’, that magic that happens when strong technical skill combines with authentic personal expression.

Performance opportunities take place throughout the year, and you will need to have danced flamenco for at least a year and have completed our beginner's classes or equivalent.

Flamenco: Taster

Saturday 7 December 2024.

In this fun and dynamic introductory class, you will learn fundamental Flamenco dance moves, steps and rhythms in an energising and supportive atmosphere. Ideal for absolute beginner men and women, as well as students with some experience who’d like to consolidates the basics and learn a new Flamenco dance routine!

Flow Dance, Oval

6.30pm – 8.00pm Thursdays 4 April to 23 August 2024 (NO Half Term Break).
£15 per class.


Absolute beginners welcome as well as the more experienced students. No dance partner required, but friends welcome!

In these fun and dynamic dance classes, for women and men of all ages, you can enjoy 90mins of foot stomping, wrist-curling, arm-weaving, skirt-swirling, hip-swaying, heart-pounding (and castanet-clacking) Spanish dance joy and power! Whatever your previous dance experience, you will develop posture, presence, body-confidence, suppleness, coordination and style.


You will learn the authentic moves of 'Flamenco Gitano'. Attention to the technique of moves will feed into a wide range of short combinations, leading to a whole dance sequence and to end-of-term performance opportunities.
