Classes

Regular, weekly classes are held throughout the year at four locations in London, St. Margaret’s Church, Streatham Hill, La Caseta Flamenca, Streatham,  City Lit, Covent Garden Morley College Lambeth and Flow Dance, Oval.

 

Private classes are also available for individuals and small groups. These can be in a hired studio or in the company's purpose-built studio, Streatham, South London.

The Marriage of Shakespeare and Flamenco: a Performance Project

A truly unique performance opportunity! “Gallop apace, you fiery-footed steeds…”

A Dance & Drama short course marrying Shakespeare and Flamenco in a new and fresh adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

 

Rehearse and perform the opening scene transplanted to Andalucía in the 1960s, as two rival Romani clans meet and clash in words, song and Flamenco dance.

 

Whether you’re a student actor, singer, or a dancer with some Flamenco experience, come fast-track your performance skills, develop your story-telling and expand your practise.

Saturdays 13 April to 17 August 2024 (NO Half Term Break).

3.30pm – 4.30pm. £8 drop-in / £5 per class when paid monthly in advance.

Absolute beginners welcome as well as the more experienced students wishing to consolidate the basics and learn new routines and performance dances.


Whatever your previous dance experience, you will develop posture, presence, body-confidence, coordination and style, while learning all the fundamental moves and grooves of Spanish ‘gitano’ dance.

Flamenco Dance in Studio and Online

19:30 – 21:00 Open Level Class.

DROP-IN = £15 per class, MONTHLY IN ADVANCE = £12 per class.

 

Please note: all the classes listed above are the same price in studio as on Zoom, payable in cash or online.

 

These dual-delivery classes are ideal for absolute beginners, as well as for experienced students wishing to consolidate & extend their training in fundamental Flamenco dance technique (posture, footwork coordination & speed, arm & wrist moves, markings, turns etc.) AND embark on NEW choreography and fresh performance opportunities.


Whether in the studio or at home online, each student will be given personalised feedback and guidance in every session, with access to notes, music and tuition videos for (optional) home practise.

City Lit

 

Spring 2024

 

Each class lasts 90mins. Thursday classes include regular live guitar accompaniment.
Students will have access to video recordings of sections of the class for home practise, and can share and access reference material on Google Classroom.


NOTE: To avoid disappointment, enrol at least a week before the course starts. If you find the course is full, call the Dance & Drama office on 020 7492 2542 and put your name down on the WAITING LIST.

Flamenco: Beginners

 

Thursday 25 April to 4 July 2024 = 11 sessions over 11 weeks (NO Half Term break).
10.30am to 12.00pm. Full fee £199, Senior fee £159, Concessions £129, Course Code DDB052.

In this lively and friendly class, you will learn fundamental Flamenco dance moves, technique, steps and rhythms. A series of exercises will lead to a short dance sequence, you will develop style, presence and co-ordination – and you will have the option to perform the dance in an informal end-of-term showing.

Flamenco: Improvers and Intermediate

 

 

Thursday 25 April to 4 July 2024 = 11 sessions over 11 weeks (NO Half Term break).
12.15pm to 1.45pm. Full fee £199, Senior fee £159, Concessions £129, Course Code DDM055.


This fun, dynamic and intensive course will enable you to develop and perfect your Flamenco dance technique, rhythm, style and variety of steps and combinations, leading to enhanced confidence, stamina and performance skills.

You will be embodying a variety of Flamenco ‘palos’ (Flamenco ‘forms’), so as to dance with ‘Flamencura’, that magic that happens when strong technical skill combines with authentic personal expression.

Performance opportunities take place throughout the year, and you will need to have danced flamenco for at least a year and have completed our beginner's classes or equivalent.

Flamenco: Choreography


Thursday 30 May to 27 June 2024 = 5 sessions.
2pm to 3.30pm. Full fee £89, Senior fee £71, Concessions £62, Course Code DDM057.


Develop your technique and creative understanding as you discover how Flamenco choreography is crafted, with its distinct sections and corresponding steps and moves. You will collaborate in creating a new dance piece, understanding its close connection to the musical structure, the complex rhythmic patterns (the ‘compás’) as well as a more personal relationship to the choreography. Designed for improvers and intermediate level students. If you are unsure about your level please do not hesitate to contact us.

A friendly, intensive class that focuses on the confident execution of flamenco dance with pleasure, passion and panache, suitable for absolute beginners as well as more experienced students wishing to revise the basics and learn fresh choreographies. Performance opportunities throughout the year.

Flow Dance, Oval

6.30pm – 8.00pm Thursdays 4 April to 23 August 2024 (NO Half Term Break).
£15 per class.


Absolute beginners welcome as well as the more experienced students. No dance partner required, but friends welcome!

In these fun and dynamic dance classes, for women and men of all ages, you can enjoy 90mins of foot stomping, wrist-curling, arm-weaving, skirt-swirling, hip-swaying, heart-pounding (and castanet-clacking) Spanish dance joy and power! Whatever your previous dance experience, you will develop posture, presence, body-confidence, suppleness, coordination and style.


You will learn the authentic moves of 'Flamenco Gitano'. Attention to the technique of moves will feed into a wide range of short combinations, leading to a whole dance sequence and to end-of-term performance opportunities.
